scrote Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 Hi everyone - sorry to raise this yet again - I have been through the entire 23 pages of the thread in FAQ and would like some clarification - 1 - heaps of smoke appeared last week (never had it before) - aux heater exhaust damp with un-burnt diesel 2 - Fitted new glow plug (had to drill out three bolts - bit of a nightmare but all back together now) 3 - still heaps of smoke - aux heater exhaust hot and have the jet engine sound, although this seems to cut out after a while. So - having read the thread, do I need a new metering pump or do I need to clean out the combustion chamber ? regards - Scrote Quote
stevie m Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 Hi scrote, Sorry to here that the plug i sent you didn't fix the problem. I have read on here somewhere that someone cleaned it out. That is worth a try cos that costs nowt but your time mate. If you need to stop the smoke while you are driving pull number 12 fuse. Steve Quote
scrote Posted April 5, 2008 Author Report Posted April 5, 2008 Steve - thanks for your prompt reply and the rapid delivery of the new glow plug - much appreciated My next plan is cleaning out the combustion chamber before I buy a new metering pump - but if anyone could give me a steer in the right direction it would be helpful ! JohnR Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 STOP!Before proceeding, check that your after run pump is running. After a run, open the bonnet immediately after stopping the engine and listen for a whirring noise from the back of the engine which stops after a couple of minutes. If you can't hear it, then the brushes are worn out. It is this pump that circulates water through the aux heater. If not working, the heater will only run for a minute or so before tripping on over-temperature. John Quote
Ginettamad Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Not heard that pump on mine running on? and my heater works now and then sometimes with the jet noise only running for short bursts like Scrotes? It usually seems to run ok after a few miles of coughing and spluttering? So what the procedure for checking and repairing the electric Water Pump then please? Is it worth another forum heading Aux Water pump?I'd also like to replace the water hoses onto the booster heater, as they look very perished. Are they dealer only parts or will motor factors sell them? Anyone do Silicon versions?H Quote
scrote Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 Sorted ! I had not had the chance to look at the pump as suggested - but it looks like all is well again after a few days the smoke stopped and the heater is working. I wonder if it was just burning off an accumulation of diesel ? hanks for everyones help. Scrote Quote
